Travellers face hefty rises in the cost of air travel after the Chancellor rejected pleas to lash or abolish an air duty dubbed 'the poll tax of the skies'.
Air Passenger Duty (APD) will rise as planned in April next year. Airlines calculate that the rise will be more than 10 per cent - twice the rate of inflation - but full details will be announced on December 6.
